MLB "Daily Rewind"

Hope that sucker bombs. Becoming the vessel through which media titans incubate new ways to gouge customers for greater and greater amounts may make Apple a few bucks, but it'll make society (read: all of us average Joes) poorer.

Baseball used to be a uniting influence, a common thread that tied together people from coast to coast. Back before MLB took away standard radio broadcast in favor of satellite radio. Now MLB has taken broadcast viewing to satellite and out of cable. More money in the short-run, perhaps, but a shrinking market exposure.

No doubt in the greedy minds of MLB, they might one day be able to pull the ability of ESPN to run the highlight reel, making it only available to those willing to get heisted for a buck a day, making even more money (even though on a much smaller audience) than they can collect from ESPN, etc.

As if the average cable or satellite tv bill wasn't already absurd enough as it is. No offense to Apple, but I hope the greedy bums at MLB come up dry. And I sure hope Apple isn't going to be part of a corporate collaboration to drive up the total price of media consumption through splitting up "subscription" type material into fractional parts, then charging many times more per "episode" than the current aggregate "season" cost (as a fraction of the already abusively high premium cable or satellite packages). If that's what Apple's hoping to do, then a pox on their greedy heads too.

That's a step backwards - MLB already streams 100% of games live.
