Actually, one can look at it in a different perspective. here the seller has essentially full control over the selling price!! Also keep in mind GBDS wholesale actvities are not aimed at individuals but to a syndicate/consortium where in they can sell diamonds in bulk. The gross profit margin should be considerable as mining/processing costs are low in Russia and selling price in US is considerably higher as demand is greater than supply (not only in US but the world over)!!

No. I am saying that an uneducated person may have paid $7000 for the stone that I got for $5600. I suspect the wholesale price of this stone to be in the $4800 range. Wholesale bulk diamonds are one thing, retail are completely different. As with almost any wholesale bulk item, the profir margin is much closer.
Again I am not an expert, but I have been taught a bit about diamonds from an associate of mine.
I have been dabbling in coins and jewelry for over thirty years.
