IPF is different from interstitial pneumonitis. Long term interstitial pneumonitis can lead however to IPF but is a rare cause of IPF (most being idiopathic).
The big problem is it is difficult to do more than mechanically ventilate someone with 100% O2. You treat a bunch of possible underlying causes and hope the patient rallies.
