One way to perform the gigabyte transfers on your home network is to connect your laptop with an ethernet cable to your router. Voila, a 100 Mbs connection.

Firewire works great also, and most notebooks come with a firewire connection these days.

Windsock, both are solutions that I can do without complaint. :-)

I think the wireless solution makes a good strawman to bash the Centrino platform, though. It's basically judging the whole platform based on the weakest link, and making a big deal over it. Nevermind the advantages that I as a consumer care about - battery life, thinner and lighter form factors, and great performance in a 25W power envelope.

Windsock, as an old Ethernet person myself, I like the ethernet solution. Just hook up a crossover cable & you're off and running. However, this is a wireless world we are entering, and 802.11g gives performance comparable (half, anyhow) to the 100Mb Ether.

The beer & 49nrs beating the Steelers is a good solution, too! I understand Rattay is starting Sunday in Green Bay - if he can prevail at Lambert Field, there definitely will be a quarterback controvery in these parts.
