#18042 RE: Dan3 #18027

Petz, Dan3, fab time to market: If AMD chooses Dresden, as is looking more and more likely, then I do hope we find the advantages that y'all see. Your theory is that AMD can start groundbreaking right away because the campus has been zoned for wafer processing and utilities already run there.

Nice theory, but we really don't know what the bottleneck will be - maybe it will be some essential piece of equipment. Since AMD is in the second generation of 300mm, I am hopeful that this problem will be lessened.

Still, building the building is generally not the biggest problem. In fact, if they were delayed six months before groundbreaking, they could still go ahead with equipment orders in parallel. This stuff generally has long lead times anyway.

The best thing that AMD could be doing for time to market would have been to start putting in orders for equipment six months ago, well before the location was established. That would really bring in the schedule!
