#18041 RE: UpNDown #18026

UpNDown, not a good strategy -

Ruiz should have made this personal at the Lehman Brothers Conference. He should have said "I know some of you analysts have Centrino notebooks. You don't realize now that Intel sold you overpriced, obsolete technology in their 802.11b wireless solution. But you will soon."

You don't make friends by insulting their new stuff and making them feel like idiots, even when they are. Better to say something like this:

"I know some of you analysts have Centrino notebooks. Welcome to the wireless era! If you like the freedom of wireless networking, I invite you to take a look at Athlon laptops, which run their WiFi network five times faster than Centrino and have been available since last summer. We find this is very popular with out customers and we are selling quite well in the desktop replacement catagory. Fast 802.11g networking at a competitive price is one reason why."

UND, Re: "The chip is good," Knox said. "The wireless technology they bundle with the chip is garbage. But if you want Centrino, you've got to take that technology.

These are the kinds of comments that consistently make AMD look like a donkey to the rest of the industry. You think people should be patting this guy Knox on the back for his comments, but in reality, they're only laughing behind it. Seriously, this guy should be severely reprimanded for trash talking in front of a public audience. That's just not how serious companies conduct business.
