PESHAWAR, Jan 15 (Pajhwok Afghan News): The Pakistani law-enforcement agencies said they had detained director of a local religious seminary on suspicion of his links with the al-Qaeda terror network in Peshawar, capital of the North-Western province of that country.

Quoting sources in the intelligence department and residents where the raid was made, a report appeared in Pakistani newspaper said personnel of police and intelligence departed had raided the madressa in Dawra Chowk to find a clue to al-Qeada chief Osama bin Ladin.

"They (police) were probably searching for Osama bin Laden as several neighbours were asked about him during the raid," said the report quoting a local resident.

The source said the detained suspect had been identified as Qari Subhanullah, head of the Iqra Rozatul Atfal in Dawra Chowk near the posh residential locality of Gulbahar. It is not clear as the detainee is a local tribesman or belongs to Afghanistan.

Quoting witnesses, the report said large number of policemen, who came in dozens of vehicles, participated in the operation. Besides searching all the rooms of the house and religious school, they also conducted search operation in the neighbouring houses.
