that isnt entirely true. you can purchase with unsettled funds, however selling stock you purchased wit unsettled funds is subject to violation of the free ride rule. You can then sell after the settlement date, and there is no problem, even if you sold and bought originally in the same day.

Having a margin account eliminates this, however if you power money from your broker (by on margin) the broker has the right to lend out your shares.

My etrade account allows me to reinvest the money immediately however they remind me each time that it might result in a 90 day account freeze. This would be the case if I would sell the newly purchased stock before the sell order on the initial stock settles. For example: If I would sell chnw and buy etim right after and sell etim within the settlement time of my chnw sell I would be subject to a account freeze.

Ahh yes. My broker doesnt impose that. Only if I want to take funds back out to the bank do I have to wait the settlement.
