Ok, I configured the PE3250 server with Madison 1.4 Ghz, which is more in the Xeon/Opteron market than the 1.5 Ghz Madison.

It's $15,815 and 2U. Still, $10,815 and 1U off the target.

You are using today's technology and today's pricing to make a long term prediction. What fallacy.

IPF is low volume right now, so the prices are high to recover costs. Nothing says that these servers won't align with Xeon prices, just like $3000 Pentium 4 systems eventually reached the sub-$1000 range and $2500 Centrino systems are now selling for well below $1500 as well. Things always start out priced high, and then they work their way towards high volume. IPF seems to be following the same path.
