Good news for DNAPrint diabetes test: Harvard University has received formal Notice of Allowance from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for 20 claims that cover diagnostic uses of a novel genetic marker for diabetes. In January of this year, Sarasota-based DNAPrint Genomics began sponsoring Harvard’s research based on the marker, CD59, licensed by DNAPrint. Ultimately, DNAPrint hopes to develop and commercialize new diagnostic tests based on the marker, to better define and manage diabetes.


NEW YORK_In a setback for Bristol-Myers Squibb Co., the company said Thursday that a diabetes drug it was touting as part of its turnaround will need at least an additional five years of testing to meet regulators' requirements and that it may not develop the medication.
