chipguy -

This reminds me of when MPR predicted that PowerPC would
open a big performance lead over x86 starting with the
604 and never look back

There was no need to look back. There was nobody behind them...

It used to be fun listening to the PPC zealots claim their chip was designed by the combined genius of IBM Apple and Moto and the X86 was an obsolete piece of ****. Then they had to try and explain why they trailed an obsolete piece of ****.

chipguy, 2H03 doesn't mean that much. IPF is crearly replacing HP-RISC, Alpha and RS14000. The growth rate will be fast until it will reach the combined market of those chips. At that moment it will hit the wall and stay exactly at that point for years.

I don't see any IPF server products that are targeting outside the Alpha market - so how can it grab different market without any hardware for it?

You are clearly very biased toward IPF, and this is perfectly fine as long as you and others understand that :-)

This is investment board, noone of us is planning to buy Itanium (and Opteron) servers. Your advertisement is off target.
