600k in volumes per year? That would eat up a sizable chunk of the RISC market. And, at as ASP close to $2000, it means more than a billion dollars to Intel's bottom line. IPF may very well reach those volumes by 2005, but I also think that Intel will continue to push down with their Deerfield derivatives, much like IBM has tried to push down with Power4 using the PPC970. By the time Intel goes dual core with Montecito, you can bet they'll have a single core version that's fairly cheap to manufacture and still have enough performance to wipe up the low end.
