I absolutely loved working at the zoo, in a totally different capacity than you and just missed getting into animal division.
New Director came in and cleaned house. Didn't really need it, but the new people had different ideas and agendas. It was all good mostly.

The new group was all animal rights and care concepts and going as natural and fence free as possible and new exhibits etc. The old guard, while compassionate and protective was old concept of walk in front cages and not melded species.

An actual zoo itself is still a active debate topic. Should we have zoo's? Is it justified? That's still out there. But keep them or not, most zoo's in the USA are in much better shape and animal care than 10 - 20 years ago.

I came in right in the middle of changes. Animal rights and all that.
