It's not all of WI but areas there are really out of line. It's not the kids fault but rather their parents and rural areas tend to promote that sort of behavior as a badge of honor.. Some of them eventually grow up and enjoy the diverse world we live in, others are stuck in the hatred for even an out of town visitor. I'm not one to comment on all that but I've seen it first hand because I used to frequent that area and their little pimples of ski hills when I was young..
As I got older, I learned about more things that kept me out of that herd mentality that seems to define all the Trumpies today. I learned to respect all people regardless of their race or religion and sometimes looking back those days were spooky, so I just stopped going there. I discovered plenty of great places and good people in WI so it's not a bad place. There's places in Illinois I can also point out that were not positive experiences for me either.
I suppose every state has them. Just me being white opened up some really uncomfortable conversations with people who automatically thought that I had the same ideals as they did.. I mostly play along and still do until this day but it is fairly prevalent here in the upper midwest.. Don't even get me started on Michigan. I used to go shooting with a lot of those clowns because I didn't want me or my wife to get shot ourselves..
