'This is where GOP chaos matters': AOC sets record straight on MTG House turmoil
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) on Thursday got into a heated spat with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) — but on Friday morning she tried to disown any blame she may be receiving for the congressional drama.
In a series of Twitter posts, Ocasio-Cortez explained why Greene was the primary instigator in the verbal fight that culminated in the Georgia congresswoman accusing Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) of having fake eyelashes.
"Here’s the problem with 'both sidesing' the chaos that was the Republican Oversight hearing," she argued. "Republicans VOTED in committee to allow the rhetoric that was used against Ms. Crockett last night. Notice that when Dems have the majority, these things don’t happen."
The New York Democrat then made the case that the turmoil created by House Republicans was "even worse" than what viewers saw in the viral confrontation between her and Greene.
"Remember: the hearing was about contempt proceedings — otherwise known as a 'markup hearing,' where the full committee must vote at the end," she contended.
"In markups, both parties offer amendments. This is standard. Amendments are voted on and then the full proposal. Dems had 7 amendments. This is where the GOP chaos matters. AFTER the Republican Chair and GOP members broke official House protocol to allow MTG’s horrific opening silo of rhetoric, they THEN made another change to dispense with the legislative process. THAT part is not getting enough attention."
Ocasio-Cortez then added that the GOP took things a step further.
