#472152 RE: newmedman #472136

I refuse to ignore family history and insert myself into the cath lab or on to the CAB surgical table.

I got away with eating like you into my 60's because of bike riding, walking and weight lifting. My first doctor after I went on Medicare told me 'you bought yourself time with the activity you've described and your weight and BP suggests you've told me the truth about your activity level. Notwithstanding that your lipid panel is a disaster and if you don't modify it with drug intervention and dietary modification your medical outcome is predictable if not inevitable.'

In other word my liver cranks out cholesterol like Henry Ford cranked out Model T's. But not anymore over the past 10 years.

I followed his advice, took the statin, lost 15 pounds to boot and I'm approaching my 78th birthday.

We're all different and I have no illusions about what I can safely eat.
