Transcript:

ExxonMobil, through its affiliate ESSO Nederland, has revealed plans to construct a pilot plant for carbon capture at its Rotterdam Manufacturing Complex. This project is a collaborative effort with FuelCell Energy and will test the commercial viability and performance of carbonate fuel cell (CFC) technology. CFCs, developed by FuelCell Energy, have the ability to capture CO2 and other gases from industrial sources before they enter the atmosphere. The technology is promising as it offers a more efficient way of collecting CO2 in high concentrations compared to conventional methods. ExxonMobil and FuelCell Energy have been collaborating on this technology since 2016, with the Rotterdam site being the first to pilot this technology. Not only do CFCs capture CO2, but they also produce power instead of consuming it, making them an attractive solution for carbon capture. If successful, ExxonMobil plans to implement this technology in their manufacturing sites worldwide.
