I think this is the main reason Intel currently integrates a GPU on the chipset... the silicon is basically free.
I think your point is that the current Intel model of node X=CPU, then node X-1=chipset is going to break, because there is no need for further shrinks of the chipset. I think an over riding concern is that the roadmap indicates to me that the CPU will continue to suck up stuff that is in the chipset, generating less need for chipset silicon. I think the INTC answer to this will be "core" cpu on generation X, and celeron on X-1. It also appears they are working on a bunch of special use CPU's, ala Elmers highly integrated thing we saw a few week back... that can use up X-1 capacity.
