How many studies have been done on DS?

Chemically and structurally, the silks that KBLB is producing are far closer to silkworm silk than to spider silk.

Silkworm silk is made from fibroin. Spider silk is composed of spidroin. As a rough analogy, fibroin resembles lego blocks connected in layers while spidroin resembles repeated patches of Velcro connected by wires.

With only 4 to 10% spider silk genes in their genome, KBLB’s silkworms are producing something that resembles fibroin more closely than spidroin.

All of the testing that has been done on spider silk will have to be replicated with DS.

Some of this may have begun already, given the samples of DS that were shipped to medical companies recently.

Medicine is a very cautious field. Nobody wants to be on the stand in a lawsuit having to confess that “We didn’t test Dragon Silk for biocompatibility because we know that Spider Silk is biocompatible.” The same is true for every other property you can imagine.

We all want to envision KBLB succeeding beyond our wildest of dreams. They may. Maybe they will just succeed beyond our wild dreams. Maybe they will be successful in technical clothing. Who knows?

What I know is that it is a fallacy to assume KBLB is already succeeding beyond our wildest dreams. Many hurdles before that happens, folks.
