You don’t know how much brewed protein Spiber Japan has produced, nor do you have any particular insight about the properties of those fibers. We all know that Spiber has been working with many well-recognized companies and releasing products with increasing frequency. In seems likely that they have produced in considerable excess of 25 kilos of their fibers, and those fibers have proven their worth to collaborators who have produced products incorporating them.

None of us understands the economics of their production model. People familiar with bacteria-based production have pointed to the high costs involved. Perhaps Spiber has found ways to produce their specialized fibers more economically than we understand. Or not. We don’t know.

What we do know is that venture capitalists and other sources have dumped hundreds of millions of dollars into their hands. These funds may be backstopped by the possibility of shifting Spiber’s production to drugs, which produce more valuable proteins. We don’t know. We do know that KBLB has been unable to obtain venture capital funding. We do know that KBLB is hoping to attract interest from additional clothing manufacturers besides Kings.

KBLB’s efforts to obtain additional funding through a second public offering have been on hold for years.

By all means, ignore Spiber as a competitor. I continue to be interested in their progress, especially as KBLB has specifically identified them as potential competition.
