As I recall from the time, Icahn recommended the thief Mnuchin to Trump for Treasury. Trump obliged and Mnuchin was to get the GSEs out of the conservatorships. Icahn, at that time, had some $50 Million invested in the GSEs. But . . . Mnuchin's allegiance was to Goldman-Sachs and they wanted the GSEs to go belly up so they could scavenge the remains. Mnuchin obfuscated, screwed over Icahn , and screwed over the shareholders by intentionally doing nothing of value. Icahn got pissed, saw the writing on the wall, and sold out. We poor peon investors couldn't afford to take the losses and had to ride it out.
That's sort of how it went . . . . and here we sit in 2023!
