I do believe that is a legitimate delay tactic when all else is falling apart. One of the team announces they quit the immediate team, asks for time to find a replacement while the particular lawyer is still an active member of the firm and also still advises the same client or the remaining team in the office setting. There is never a total cut off of the client unless the whole team quits along with the firm.
There is no law that I'm aware of that one lawyer from a team can leave and not still have contact with the client.
I've seen this played in person. I absolutely don't put it past orangedonshittypants to also go this route. I'm sure many people's first thoughts are the guy wants out, but this is a strategy play. IMO.
