Haha, the Heartland Institute is at it again. That is so funny.
The Heartland Institute, a self-described free-market think tank notorious for its climate science denial efforts, is at it again. This time, Heartland is frantically spinning the results of a survey it commissioned in its latest attempt to dispute the robust scientific consensus on climate change.
To be clear, climate experts overwhelmingly agree that climate change is happening and that humans are primarily responsible. And there’s plenty of evidence about that consensus.
The Heartland Institute is an American conservative and libertarian public policy think tank known for its rejection of both the scientific consensus on climate change and the negative health impacts of smoking.[2]
Founded in 1984, it worked with tobacco company Philip Morris throughout the 1990s to attempt to discredit the health risks of secondhand smoke and lobby against smoking bans.[3]:?233–234?[4] Since the 2000s, the Heartland Institute has been a leading promoter of climate change denial.[5][6]
The institute advocates free market policies.[19] The policy orientation of Heartland has been described as conservative, libertarian, and right wing.[11][20][21][22] The institute promotes climate change denial, advocates for smoker's rights
Leak exposes how Heartland Institute works to undermine climate science
Libertarian thinktank keeps prominent sceptics on its payroll and relies on millions in funding from carbon industry, papers suggest
The inner workings of a libertarian thinktank working to discredit the established science on climate change have been exposed by a leak of confidential documents detailing its strategy and fundraising networks.
DeSmogBlog, which broke the story, said it had received the confidential documents from an "insider" at the Heartland Institute, which is based in Chicago. The blog monitors industry efforts to discredit climate science.
The scheme includes spending $100,000 for spreading the message in K-12 schools that "the topic of climate change is controversial and uncertain - two key points that are effective at dissuading teachers from teaching science", the documents said.
The claim: 96% of climate data is corrupted A July 26 Instagram post (direct link, archive link) claims a study proves climate change data is unreliable.
"Breaking: 96% of 'climate change' data is corrupted: Heartland Institute study," reads the on-screen text.
The post garnered more than 500 likes in nine days.
Our rating: False The 96% claim drastically overstates the scope of a study that examined one type of data collected by one agency, then only analyzed a fraction of that data in two groups 13 years apart. No other types of climate data collection methods or environmental organizations were discussed in the study.
Study had limited scope, most data from 2009 The Instagram post references a 2022 study published by the Heartland Institute, a conservative think tank. It's a follow-up to a survey performed in 2009. But the group's analysis of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration data wasn't anywhere near as comprehensive as the study's title and the post in question claim.
Among those surveyed in the poll, 33% were Republicans, 36% were Democrats, and 31% were “other”
So if you believe this discredited right wing heartland institute ( I don't ) the voter fraud was almost split. So can someone tell that orange idiot to STFU already.
