Incorrect. It used to be that way long before algorithms. But offshore accounts and algorithms have free reign to do what they want without any regulation and the SEC is a big, fat joke when it comes to shorting. If you are a trader, as long as I’ve been, it’s as plain as day in every exchange, including the OTC. You and I, common retailers can’t short, but believe me many small boutique hedge funds short the OTC all the time. I know this for a fact, and have talked to an individuals and a trading firm who does it all the time, but I will not disclose that name here.

I have seen numerous OTC stocks without any convertible, notes and no change in share structure shorted into the ground. It is not an uncommon event so your post is not reality and it doesn’t hold any water. I say this respectfully.

which are those below $5.00 per share.
I challenge ANYONE to short any penny stock and PROVE it. No one has met that challenge in the last 15 years. So, while people constantly gab about shorts, in reality, those of us that understand the system know they are blowing smoke.

Almost correct you can short otc stocks under $5.00 I'm sure there is a point where they don't allow subs I have never tryed.
but otc under $5.00 yes you can short
most stocks under .05 have no avialabilty
you are right about calling your broker and asking and cost would make it ridiculous to even think about doing it.
