Your deflective hypotheticals are not even interesting ones. The FACT is, 10's of thousands of innocents are being slaughtered and that is the issue. Right there and right now. If Israel can figure out a way to get rid of hamas without doing that it would be okay with most of the world. All they are doing now is guaranteeing fresh recruits for hamas, and risking regional escalation.
We killed 460,000 Iraqis for no real reason, so it isn't like we have the moral high ground, but two wrongs don't make a right.
