I know you did and I was wondering earlier why you did send a W-8BEN form.

The reason is that it was required when subscribing to the Cow Capital shares. It's part of the subscription instructions. I would assume that anyone investing in CCAC, or directly in the verticals, are required to submit one. Just as you're required to submit it to your stock broker, in order to be able to buy any US-listed stock (ITUP shares for example).
