Yup, Sister Rosetta was certainly a harbinger of music to come. Johnny Cash really loved her. I don't know how 'liberal' Johnny Cash was in his personal life, but musically he seemed to care only about the music. People often mention how Johnny risked alienating some of his ole timey country fans by having Dylan on his TV show and performing several wonderful songs with him. But he also had on his show a variety of talent from everywhere. For instance, he also had on Odetta, the great folk singer and 'Voice of the Civil Rights Movement'. She performed a song or two alone, and then she sang the calypsoesque song, 'Shame And Scandal in the Family' with Johnny. The duet is nice, but I just luv the way they look at each other. Btw, in spite of her popularity, and greatness, Odetta performed on only two 'variety shows' in her career. The aforementioned Johnny Cash, and also The Ernie Ford Show.
