In the Middle Ages, kings had messengers who brought bad news executed. For the kings, this was apparently the only way to deal with their disappointment about the reported facts.
Today, in so-called Western civilization, we are apparently still strongly entrenched in these bloody medieval traditions. The only difference is that we now use caustic criticism and biting ridicule for "virtual execution."
