Of course they have. The rest of us have been following laws for all our lives. That does not make us government officials.

Now they are trying to say that the public internet is their private property to deflect from their crimes

No, they are not. And what "crimes" are you talking about??

Let me help:

Public property:

Property owned by a government. Examples are city halls, public parks, streets, sidewalks, libraries, schools and similar venues.

Private property:

Everything that is not owned by a government.

Public internet:

Websites and network infrastructure owned by government. Usually has a .gov in the domain in the case of websites.

Private internet:

Everything else in the interwebs including ISPs, network backbones, websites and online services.

Now they are trying to say that the public internet is their private property
