Apart from considering immediate treatment, another good reason to test during a possible-Covid infection (even a minor-symptom one) is that if you test positive, you are in for a period of strong immunity for months and should put off any subsequent boosters until you really need them to extend your immunity (new variant-specific jabs aside).

Also, if you test negative (especially if you tested immediately), it's good to test again the next day if you're suspicious. AND if you *still* continue to have what seems like a Covid-like experience despite negative rapid tests, consider a PCR; I know someone who tested positive on a PCR despite 3 days of negative rapid tests.
