lol Guess he was more into the future than the past.

My high school years were the late 60s. The school had a marvelous English teacher who loved avant garde theatre and film. He organized assemblies and had a film society that introduced us to classics. His very interesting lectures taught us how to read the images and look for symbols. The films I can remember off hand were:
1. On the Waterfront
2. Cocteau's Beauty and the Beast (La Belle et la Bête) The Addams Family TV show stole from it. There were sconces along a hall held by human hands and Belle's beau was served a drink by a hand that came out of the table... the birth of Thing.
3. Truffaut's The 400 Blows
4. Peter Brook's Marat/Sade
5. Citizen Kane (All they told us about Rosebud was the obvious -- the sled that represented Kane's lost childhood. We knew Hearst had the movie banned from distribution because it was about him. They did not clue us in that Rosebud was Hearst's pet name for a certain part of Marion Davies's anatomy. <g> )

He also directed the senior class play. The class of '66 performed Ionesco's Rhinoceros. The class of '67 put on Bertolt Brecht's Mother Courage. He was forbidden from choosing and directing the play for the class of '68. lol (I was the high school class of '69. We had a field day with that year.)

Anyway, he inspired a lifelong love of early film, foreign film (particularly French film), and theatre in me especially Theatre of the Absurd. (I do not have commercial tastes.) Most of my time in Manhattan revolved around work in the arts.

Sorry to ramble on like this. Got to say, I'm becoming quite enamored of this board.
Good luck working on the iHub changes. They make life interesting.
