There have been plenty of fake trading stories planted over the years. Several year ago there was one about the NYC HS kids who supposedly made millions trading over his lunch break. Fake and the reporter lost her job over that.

I'll try to dig that one out later.

Obvious fake.

"So his next moves included switching off real trading and testing his skills through paper trading. Then, he signed up for an online course his parents helped pay for. The program, which was created by Timothy Sykes, a trading teacher and former penny-stock trader known for claiming to flip his bar mitzvah cash gift into over $1 million in gains, helped him develop the skills and patience he then used to craft his skill."

That's 2014's Mohammed Islam lie, Part Two.

"Schoolboy 'trader' who lied to New York magazine about making $72million issues official video apology but blames reporter for putting him under 'pressure'

"The New York teenager who gained overnight fame after telling a reporter he had made $72million trading stocks on his lunch breaks at school has apologized on video for 'making it all up'.

Mohammed Islam, 17, a Stuyvesant High School senior, told New York magazine's Jessica Pressler that he had earned millions of dollars by trading oil and gold futures, and small to mid-cap equities

But after the magazine ran the interview and his story made international headlines, the student quickly backtracked, hiring a pricey crisis PR firm and battle-tested attorneys to spread the word. "
