Published: 08 October 2013
Written by John Mowbray

NEW YORK - US biotech firm Kraig Biocraft Laboratories, which develops genetically modified spider silk-based fibres, has announced the launch of its first commercial production program with the recent hatching of its first batch of ‘Monster Silk’ silkworms and expects to be producing metric ton quantities by mid-2014. The company says a small portion of initial production should yield fibres which can be used for the production of woven textile samples.
