Liver biopsy…has an AUROC of around 0.87. Issues are that when you take the biopsy, you get a very small piece of the liver that may not be representative of the entire liver.

How many discrete samples are taken during a typical liver biopsy? I would think that extracting multiple samples would increase AUROC to >0.90, but I’m merely speculating.

MRE is thought to have an AUROC of better than 0.87 but is an expensive test and currently only available at 1000 sites globally.

MRE works pretty well for clinical trials, but it would be a major impediment to broad commercial uptake of any NASH drug for the reasons you mention.
