Don't be afraid, it's by far the safest method to secure your coin. What ever may happen in the US regarding crypto, they will never EVER be able to affect what you have on a nano.
Every other system of storage is by far more of a risk than the hardware wallet.
I have bifrost, xumm, and the BIG money on my nano. Not your keys not your coin.

update: I was using my nano x that I had purchased recently.
I then tried my nano s which I used when setting up ledger live. THAT worked.
