No, but I will defer the complete answer to John.
I am of the opinion that the "Big Piggy Bank in the sky" that the Broker Dealers use is the DTC. DTC makes money on fees, penalties and margin calls to keep the book tidy and balanced if the shorts mess up with O/S share reductions or cusip changes.
