“thus they are as much of a competitor to kblb as a box of Capt Crunch...“

Like Bolt, Spiber was smart enough to realize brewing Spider Silk wouldn’t work. So they shifted away. It would be good if everyone knew that LOL

Spiber is not simply taking the sequence of one spider (Golden Orb Dragline silk) and putting that into an organism. Instead they have used sequences from Darwin’s Bark spider (which is tougher than golden orb silk) bagworm silk (also tougher), and have looked at other factors besides strength in improving wearability and washability in textile applications.

If you have a silk that combines the best of golden orb, Darwin’s bark, and bagworm silk along with several other innovations not found in spider silk, do you call it spider silk? They chose ‘brewed proteins.’ Guess they aren’t trying to mislead investors and customers by pretending they are making spider silk. KBLB keeps implying they are making Spiber silk. You and I both know that isn’t true.

Spiber is already able to develop custom fibers with distinct properties for customers to their specifications. Want something that feels more luxurious? Something more suited to technical textiles, they have what you want.

Spiber has collaborated with major manufacturers to produce luxury streetwear, technical outerwear garments, and high strength skateboards.

In short, Spiber is where most of us thought KBLB would be by now. Instead KBLB struggles to get out of the starting gate. We have yet to determine if KBLB is making the Holy Grail, or the Holey Grail.
