On Jan. 5, Colombia’s state oil firm, Ecopetrol, confirmed that it had requested an exemption from the U.S. sanctions regime to receive the gas, under a similar model agreed upon in December between the U.S. government and Chevron that allowed the corporation to ship oil from Venezuela.
