Please help me understand this better. If I buy a new car, it loses value as soon as I sign the contract (and maybe drive off). The remaining value would depreciate over the years.

However, in stock market, my stock may dilute but the value of the company will stay the same UNLESS the capital (land, plant, equipment, and miscellaneous holdings, of the company) will remain the same. OR so I believe.
