chipguy, Tim, not an argument but rather a clarification of what the chart is telling us. I agree with the majority here (always a danger sign...) that the AthlonXP brand name will always refer to a 32-bit processor, so the color change is all about process (SOI).

That does mean AMD has increasing confidence in their SOI process: They intend to use it for their value line (and everything else) within the next year.

I would expect Paris to be a 32-bit processor with perhaps 256K L2 cache. Also, Dublin and Paris should be the same processor, different packaging.

Language note: What word describes the total features of a processor before packaging? It isn't core, because that refers to the processor without cache, memory controllers or HT connections. It isn't processor because that refers to the finished, packaged product.

So what do we call it?
