what you call an administrative state - I call capitalism with guiderails and gap fillers (Social Security - Medicare) and then minimum wage - free k-12 school - city police - and the list can be 100 or much larger

some call it administrative state as pejoriative

some of us call it GOV role - guide rails - and financial actions THAT PRESERVE CAPITALISM FOMR KILLING ITSELF !!! Marx (who I have not read directly) IMO was correct 100% that a brittle or locked in strict capitalism would lead to communism as the people suffer way too much as the money goes to 1/100th of 1% and the work to the rest of us at "competitive rates that drive wages down and down beyond imagination" . All of this said by one who wants capitalism and free markets but with GOV involvement (not ownership). For example - a lot more people (left and right) are beginning to understand the value and scope of the ACA (90% on individuals not groups) ---- and that the ACA may well be what has stopped serious and loud talk of national health insurance!!! - That combo of GOV (some rules - group CREATION - subsidies) may well have saved private health insurance (just as MEDICARE by slicing off 65++ did the same before)
