MarketFest, I think what happens with those drugs is that they greatly increase the activity of the serotonin/dopaminergic pathways by either blocking the breakdown of the neurotransmitters (or as receptor agonists?), depending on the particular compound. Schizophrenia is likewise associated with excessive activity in the dopaminergic pathways, leading to spontaneous visual and auditory hallucinations. So these drugs induce a brain chemistry similar to schizophrenia, albeit temporarily. Far out man :o) I must admit I tried to stay away from those drugs personally, since I'm weird enough as it is :o)

I regret you didn't make it in one night-everyone needed to take in one bonafide Dead show, I did about 100 times. As far as psychedelics, I, at once being a believer-side clearly with Davidal, however there is an excellent film on youtube called "hofmann's potion", about treating schizophrenics with LSD. I believe there is something positive-the Aldous Huxley, eliminate the filters concept- that can happen with psychedelics-it worked that way a few times for me, and there is a rich history of religeous experimentation. I read about bright articulate people who experiment from time to time- most of the time I did them it was inebriation, plain and simple. Did I need to do it to enjoy the Dead or anything else....No. I do no drugs, well Heineken and Cabernet Sauvinon now,in moderation and feel much better about life. I also exercise alot, eat a high protein diet supplement liberal quantities of both L-Glutamine and Spirulina.
