i can't give you that answer to that question, however i can give you an equivalent that perhaps you can understand; i won't disclose the broker i was using at the time but they showed in no uncertain terms that they were directly involved in shorting with negative shares that i had no control of in my account after i sold the equivalent amount of shares the day before. this didn't just happen once.

there was also the incident where contacting my broker about the money that had been deducted from my account but the shares were not there. purchased at the open, and after contacting them several times about the non-delivery of these shares they finally did minutes before the close at a loss of 30%. held that equity for months to get my money back. if your retail broker does it, you don't think there are other institutions with the same motivation(s)? institutional fraud in plain site
