I too have sold stock, reinvested, lost and still had to pay taxes on the profit. I do NOT blame anyone but myself for my greed, which WAS what led me to reinvest..........in another company, just for the record.
HOWEVER, calling what the employees lost a "charitable deduction, not wages" boarders on the despicable. By YOUR logic, the employees are held to a higher standard of DD than investors. I think the reverse is generally held to be true.

If you sold QBID for a profit then congradulations, if you reinvested and lost your money then your no smarter then the rest of us. Crying about it will get you no where.
