Currently Nikola are following Andy's lead and planning on making their own Green hydrogen (using NEL equipment).
They are also focussed on California for the initial geography

We need a national truck refueling strategy so any truck can refuel anywhere there is a H2 pump. besides the pressure (350 and 700 bar) the nozzle technology has to be standardised and of course the "payment" system and data transfer that is downloaded at the same time is transferred to the right parties.

Flying J and Phillips 66 are I think planning on a national roll out and they will buy hydrogen from the market I believe - may be signing up with PLUG for x tons a day at a fixed price just like you buy electricity now.

So for the next 2-3 years it will be islands of stations, some only servicing Nikola - like Tesla superchargers) but gradually public stations for all trucks.
By then the availability of green hydrogen should be reasonable - as pointed out elsewhere Andy's 500 TPD isn't all sold yet so he may not make that much in 2025 unless the national network is in place. (or datacenters and aircraft are being rolled out!)

Steve, I was just thinking that since Plug Power already has hydrogen refueling stations at Walmart distribution centers, the hydrogen fuel cell trucks Walmart buys from Nikola will likely refuel at the distribution centers and thus buy hydrogen from Plug Power, cha-ching.
