I got DSL and do not "Connect using PPOE."

It is disabled. It could be either depending on provider.

langostino, the problem is...

my login and password are created using this software they want me to install. It acts as a wizard setting up my account.

I don't plan on installing it. I am going to call tech support and ask them for the info I need, and see if they can just create my login and password over the phone.
