There is a different calving event where the scientists realize they have a small tsunami headed their way and have to quickly run up a hill to higher ground! Fun! (No one hurt!) Not so fun for some villages in Greenland when that happens!

The Laurentian ice sheet left behind a burden of glacial till. You can pan for Canadian gold (dust) in Johnson Co. NE creeks, including Elk Creek. The furthest extent of the Laurentian ice sheet here in the KC area (The Illinoisian) is located a bit north of here. The Mid continent Rift extends from Lake Superior down through Wisconsin and Minnesota to Northern Kansas. Based on your early posting regarding carbonatite volcanos the Elk Creek deposit sounds like a volcano that flanked that now buried rift formation. (The MCR is about 20 m NE of Elk Creek.)
