From my understanding from participating in past dividends from other companies you have to hold through the pay date or else you lose your right to the divy. It (the divy shares) must be fully accredited to your account before you can sell.

I have sold stocks on ex-dividend day and collected my NAT dividend many times. USSE must pay-up also.
