I assume that its done:

Temp cap (stop production) on a well while drilling close proximity wells.

Consideration #1
In my oil patch, the wells are far enough apart and the target shallow enough that its not likely the 2nd well would accidently hit the bore of the 1st well, or otherwise cause an interference, if this was the genesis of your question.

But, I've wondered about the first thousand meters or so of MJ02 being so close to MJ01 that an interference could occur. Zion is using high end directional drilling with sensors that tell them exactly where the drill bit is and motor control to take it where they want it to go. Still, Murphy says there could be interference of some kind along the way. And Murphy definitely has his influence in the oil patch!

Consideration #2
After all wells are done, then yes they are usually combined into one line for production. With techniques more advance that what I'm familiar with, the merger could occur underground. But this usually requires starting in the same hole, not drilling a close proximity 2nd hole. Most likely the hydrocarbons from multiple wells are combined into a "gathering" line on the surface (or buried in a shallow ditch for protection) which goes to a central place. In my patch, the components of water, gas, and oil are separated in the central place. If the gas is not used, then it is flared at a central place, or it could be flared at an individual well and only oil/water taken to the central place.

There are many techniques in the oil patch and new ones being implemented each year. Its difficult to keep up with all the changes.
