Industrial chemist here well versed in making stable dispersions in an organic polymer matrix like this. If there are large cost savings with the newer process that would make it hard for anyone to compete using the old (now public) process, patent is way to go. Too much risk of a competitor independently stumbling upon the trade secret. Have seen it happen a few times in my career.
